The Bianconeri dominated their victory over Fiorentina, particularly the first half, but only scraped a 2-1 result.
“I tried to keep the concentration levels up. After a first half like that it was just not possible to be only 1-0 up with the game wide open, especially as they equalised with their first opportunity,” said the Coach.
“Fortunately we were able to get back on track and react to take the victory, so I praise my lads for that.
“The only regrets are for those wasted chances... We have to grow a great deal, but this squad has the quality to do that. Tonight’s performance against a good side like Fiorentina showed we are improving.”
Bonucci: “A perfect first-half”
Leonardo Bonucci is back in the side and back among the goals. The defender hit the Bianconeri’s opener against Fiorentina and sought to pay tribute to those closest to him.
“I’m very happy,” stated the defender. “I’d like to dedicate this goal to my wife, to my family and to my motivator who have been very close to me in this period. I’d like to make clear that there were no politics behind my celebration in front of the fans, it was just an explosion of joy having scored an important goal.
Tonight we played a great game, a perfect first-half in particular. Obviously we’re all happy about the win, and the fact that it takes us to the top of the table. It allows us to prepare for Saturday’s game against Inter in the best possible way.”
Matri: 'Juve suffered too much'
Alessandro Matri admits Juventus “suffered too much” considering their domination over Fiorentina.
The Bianconeri wasted numerous chances during their 2-1 victory this evening, temporarily putting them top of the table.
“We needed this win and it was fully deserved,” Matri told Sky Sport Italia after scoring the decider.
“We dominated and created so much in the first half without being able to finish them off, so after the break we suffered too much.
“When we are as concentrated as we were this evening, it’s difficult for anyone to beat us.”
Juve had drawn four of their previous five games going into this encounter.
