Conte: 'An important step for Juve'
Antonio Conte treats the Derby d’Italia triumph as “a reward” for Juventus. “It’s an important step that can help us grow.”
The Bianconeri earned their first win at San Siro since 2008 by beating Inter 2-1, securing their status at the top of the table.
“It’s an important step that can help us grow. The team is taking leaps forward and this victory allows us to keep the leadership on 19 points,” said the Coach.
“This is a reward for the lads and a reason to be satisfied. We tried to do our best and I’m happy, as it’s not easy to win at San Siro.
“It was a very intense game between two teams who wanted to put pressure on. There was a little tiredness from both sides, but I am happy because it was an excellent performance against an Inter outfit that was the favourite going into the game.
“We still lack a clinical edge, as we should’ve finished off the match earlier. We must also learn to rest with the ball, as we cannot always go at full speed.”
Juventus face another Scudetto showdown next week when they travel to the San Paolo.
“It’s going to be extremely tough, as Napoli are a great side who are favourites along with Milan and Inter for the title.”
Vucinic : “If we lose in Naples, it’d be a huge disappointment.”
The Bianconeri are clear at the top of the table after their 2-1 victory at San Siro on Saturday night.
“It’s too early to judge what this team can do. If we have three points here and then lose in Naples next weekend, it’d be a huge disappointment, so we must wait before talking about objectives,” said the striker.
He opened the scoring in the Derby d’Italia, joined on the sheet by Douglas Maicon and Claudio Marchisio.
Milan won 3-2 away to Roma and moved temporarily into second place, just two points shy of Juventus, to revive their Scudetto push.
“It changes little, as we have to focus only on our own results. Having said that, I am not afraid of the word Scudetto. We are the leaders, there is quality and a strong rapport with the Coach. It’s important that we managed to beat both Milan and Inter.
“Everyone here gives their heart and soul, as without a strong team ethic you’ll never get to the top of the table.
“However, I would not rule Inter out of the title race. With Claudio Ranieri at Roma we were further behind than this and you all know how that went...
“Why did I hug Marco Storari while celebrating? In training all my shots were going off target, so he jokingly said I just needed one in a match situation. That proved to be the case and I wanted to thank him.”
Marchisio: 'It was a penalty'
Claudio Marchisio maintains he deserved a penalty for Juventus, as “the referee misinterpreted the rules.”
The midfielder appeared to be brought down by Inter goalkeeper Luca Castellazzi, but Nicola Rizzoli waved play on.
“I was focused on shooting, then I spoke to the referee and he told me that I had already released possession. But the rules don’t state that, as if the advantage doesn’t come to anything, then you give the foul.
“Ah well, we won anyway, so let’s just pretend nothing happened...”
Juve earned a 2-1 victory with Marchisio and Mirko Vucinic on target around Douglas Maicon’s temporary equaliser.
“There is certainly enthusiasm for these three points, as it was important to stay top of the table. It’s too early to talk about objectives for the season. Milan are improving and are the favourites for the title, as they are the reigning champions.”
Marchisio is Juve’s joint top scorer on four goals this season, but he had been expected to leave in the summer.
“For the last five years people act as if I’m going to leave, but the club and all the Coaches I’ve had here have given me faith. It’s true that I do better in a three-man midfield, as I can push forward and get closer to the goal.
“It’s great having a former midfielder like Antonio Conte as our Coach, as he gives us great advice.”
