Conte: “I’m proud of my lads”

A huge heart. This was the extra weapon in Juventus’ arsenal at the San Paolo. And Antonio Conte really appreciates this kind of weapon: “We can be technically strong, but without great moral qualities we wouldn’t have been able to draw this match, being also likely to win.” And Juventus showed these qualities which, along with the individuals’ technique and with the tactical knowledge possessed by their manager, absolutely made the difference: “At the very beginning, it was hard because we started softly - explained Conte - It seemed that we wanted to let them vent. They started with a special drive and scored twice, also thanks to some distractions by our side. I think that being two goals behind, especially at the San Paolo, would have struck down any team. Instead, we’ve rediscovered ourselves, being brave enough to overcome the obstacles with our great heart. And I want to thank my lads, I’m very proud to be their manager.”
From the tactical point of view, and due to Marchisio’s absence, Conte fielded an uncommon Juventus: “We’ve shown a mirror-like way of playing, because they’ve Maggio who, along with his three team-mates forward, absolutely makes the difference and we’ve forced him to duel against Estigarribia, who has shown a wonderful performance, as well as Pepe. I’ve employed Simone in a different role and when he’s made himself familiar with his new position, he’s been simply devastating. We’ve left Vucinic forward, in a high position against Aronica, and Matri against Cannavaro. In the first half we were late and unable to serve them, while they strongly attacked. However, in the second half, they participated more in the action, creating assists and goals.”
Conte’s satisfaction was general and allowed him not to give too much weight to some defensive mistakes: “We must consider that when a goal is conceded, there’s always a missed movement or a too loosened marking. However, football is not a Play Station game, and there’s a clear difference between considering all circumstances during the week and experiencing them during a match. For example, on the occasion of Pandev’s second, Bonucci looked for anticipating him, but he wasn’t able to reach the ball. But mistakes don’t serve the function of condemning those who make them, they should be an example in order to improve. Moreover, when there’s the great availability shown by these lads, mistakes can also be tolerated…”

Estigarribia: “A special evening”

Goal number one in black and white, scored in an exhilarating encounter played out amidst a red-hot atmosphere at the San Paolo. It proved to be a truly unforgettable evening for Marcelo Estigarribia: “It’s always been a dream to score such a goal, in a similar setting, so I’ll enjoy this moment and dedicate it to my family who follow me from Paraguay. I’ve shown that I’m able to play for a great team and now I need to make the most of the opportunity given to me by the technical staff.”
Marcelo played his part in a thrilling comeback and displayed the exact kind of spirit demanded by Antonio Conte: “It was a difficult game, but we’ve clinched a very important point from a tough venue and this is what’s given me most pleasure. Now we’re already thinking about the next game, because Cesena are next up on Sunday.”

Pepe: “This draw feels the same as a win.”

Pepe celebrates victorious draw
Simone Pepe has underlined how important last night’s 3-3 draw with Napoli was for Juventus. “It feels like a win.”
The Old Lady were 2-0 and 3-1 down during stages of the game, but fought back to make sure that they are still unbeaten in Serie A this season.
“We’re a united group and we never give in,” said the Italian international. “This is the signal that we’ve sent out.
“This draw feels the same as a win.”
Juve went into the game without the suspended Claudio Marchisio and winger Pepe was asked to replace him in the middle.
“I’m not a narrow midfielder, but I was able to go about my duties thanks to my teammates,” he continued.
“I felt at ease and enjoyed myself when I found space, also because Arturo Vidal and Andrea Pirlo protected me and granted me the freedom to go forward.”
Pepe left his mark on the game by scoring the equaliser – his third goal in three games after previous strikes versus Palermo and Lazio.
“I don’t think I’ve ever scored three goals in as many games. I don’t even know if I’ve ever scored more than three at all…” he joked.
“This goal was more difficult than the one against Lazio at the weekend, however, because I did it with the ball at my feet.”

Matri: “We’ve shown our great character”

Alessandro Matri’s strike at the San Paolo saw the frontman notch his sixth goal of the season. “The most important thing is that the result gives us one more point,” said the level-headed striker at the final whistle. “There were both positive and negative aspects from our performance. The result is good, considering the situation at the break, but we can’t play like we did in the first half, without conviction in ourselves. However, we must always show the character we exhibited in the second half. The match was fairly odd, because we conceded two goals in our best spell, but we recovered and successfully obtained an important point.”
Determination was the main feature displayed by the team, but the Bianconeri also proved capable of altering their shape on the pitch. “It’s true,” concluded Matri. “But in addition to the tactical aspect, the most important thing is our involvement and willingness, always shown by every player.”

News Flash : Pirlo suspended against Cesena
Following Claudio Marchisio, now Andrea Pirlo will miss Juventus’ next game. Suspensions start to affect Antonio Conte’s choices. For Sunday afternoon’s clash against Cesena, the Bianconeri’s manager won’t have the midfielder from Brescia available because, being on a yellow card, yesterday evening he was given his fourth YC.
The encounter against Napoli extended the list of players on a yellow card. Two more Bianconeri entered the list: Bonucci and Vidal, who joined Chiellini and Pepe. No troubles instead for the two other Bianconeri who yesterday were shown a YC: Lichtsteiner who received his second yellow card, and Matri with his first. Howerver, for the game against Cesena, Conte will have Marchisio available again, who yesterday was forced to stop.
For the side from Emilia Romagna, the suspensions are known: Ceccarelli and Ravaglia won’t feature in the fixture at the Juventus Stadium.
